Nicky Chadwick  Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine
Veterinarian

Nicky graduated from the Royal Veterinary college, London University in 1993 - 20 years ago.  After initially working in the UK, Nicky married a kiwi and emigrated to NZ in 1997.  She bought Animal Care veterinary clinic in 2002 and took on Glenn as a partner in 2007.  Nicky has worked in many aspects of veterinary medicine over her career.  She works with both small animals and also does a percentage of equine work.  Her special interests are emergency medicine, ultrasonography and reproduction.  She strives to keep up to date with all aspects of medicine with frequent continuing education courses, including a yearlong correspondence course in ultrasonography and attending the 2013 World Small Animal Veterinary Conference.   Nicky has a busy home life with dogs, cats, alpacas and numerous sheep, in addition she has a very active daughter who was born in 2010.  She has a passion for animals and competed in show jumping in her youth and more recently with dog agility.

Glenn MacKay  Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Batchelor of Science
Veterinarian

Glenn graduated from Massey University with a BVSc (with distinction) in 2002. He started off in Napier before moving to AnimalCare a couple of years later. Glenn is married to Michelle who is also a vet and works for AnimalCare part time. They have three children who keep them very busy. Glenn is keen on all aspects of veterinary medicine and is currently studying towards his masters at Massey. He has found a couple of volunteer vet trips to Niue and Kiribahs rewarding. Outside of veterinary work, Glenn is keen on the outdoors, diving, fishing and hunting and likes to travel as often as he can.

Karen Valu  Bachelor of Veterinary Science
Veterinarian

Karen graduated from Massey University in 2007. She moved to Hawkes Bay from Wellington and has been working at AnimalCare since 2008. Karen has completed four Massey University masters papers in neurology, gastroenterology, radiology and also emergency medicine. Karen lives in Hastings with her Husband, large cross breed dog - Bow a ginger cat -Simba and a tabby cat named Teejay. Karen enjoys walking her dog, fundraising for animal charity organisations and cross-stitching.

Michelle MacKay  Bachelor of Veterinary Science
Veterinarian

Michelle graduated from Massey University in 2000 and has had a varied career working with pets and all types of farm animals. Now she works part time with dogs and cats. Michelle and Glenn live on 35 acres with their pet cows, sheep, chickens, two dogs (Blue & Inka), cat (Dennis) and three active children. Michelle enjoys anything to do with the outdoors and travel.

Shirley Prins  Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Shirley has been working at AnimalCare since 2000. She is a dedicated and experienced veterinary nurse who loves working with animals.

Emily Wood  Certificate in Veterinary Nursing RCVS
Veterinary Nurse

Emily has been vet nursing now for almost 20 years. She started part time and as a 'Saturday girl' for a small mixed animal clinic in Shropshire, UK. From there she got a job at a small animal clinic just outside of London where she commenced her vet nursing course. Emily gained a lot of experience there, working with a wide variety of animals including many exotics and british wildlife. After 6 years, she went travelling and did some volunteer work in Thailand. There she worked with many dogs, bears and also monkeys. Emily returned to the UK and did locum work for a few years before deciding to travel to New Zealand. After spending 2 years working in Rotorua Emily moved to Hawkes Bay, where she joined the AnimalCare team in 2007.

Kim Grant  National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Kim has been working at AnimalCare since 2007.She completed a certificate in critical care in 2012. Her interests include animals, traveling, cooking, diving and home DIY projects.

Kirsty Brewer  National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Kirsty has been part of the AnimalCare team since 2000. She worked full time until mid 2012 when she had her first daughter (Grace) and now works part time. Kirsty has always loved animals and has hand-reared and cared for many, birds, animals and wildlife species over the years. Kirsty now has two young daughters and also shares her home with two cats, a dog, a number of birds and also 2 goldfish. When Kirsty isn't working she likes walking, baking, gardening and spending time with her family.

Haley Bennett  National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Haley joined the AnimalCare team in September 2011. Haley studied veterinary nursing at E.I.T in Taradale. During her studies she was placed here at AnimalCare for hands-on training and she never left. Haley keeps herself busy with work and family. She has three boys, Jacob, Dylan, and Bradley. They also have 2 cats and a dog! We think she's crazy but she's always smiling and all too often singing - much to our disapproval.

 

Chelsea Bengston  National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Chelsea graduated from EIT in December 2015 and joined the AnimalCare team soon after. In her spare time Chelsea loves being outdoors, especially with her dog Axel. She also has a keen interest in gym fitness and body building.
